about.
Ruidi Yang is a multidisciplinary designer and artist working across theatre and interior design. With a background in scenic design, interior design, and performance studies, her practice investigates the relationship between space, narrative, and spectatorship, focusing on how spatial design shapes the ways audiences observe, experience, and engage with a story. Ruidi’s work approaches space as a medium for perception, interaction, and imagination. Through both physical and conceptual environments, she explores how design can create conditions for unique perspectives, learning, and participation. Integrating contemporary theories and experimental methods, the work often blurs the boundaries between performance and everyday spatial experience.
Ruidi received her BFA in Interior Design with highest honors from Pratt Institute and is currently pursuing an MFA in Scenic Design at Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama. Her thesis project, Performative Pavilion, featured in Dezeen School Shows 2024, examines how performative perspectives can be embedded into public space through a conceptual redevelopment proposal for Pier 76 in Hudson River Park.
